When I install WordPress sites, I use a few plugins that I like. One of them is the “All in One SEO” plugin. It does a nice job with meta tags. One thing I discovered, though, is that of the themes I’m using, some of them already add in meta tags, so that was a problem.
One theme in particular was already creating meta tags of its own, so there were two sets of meta keyword and meta description tags in place. That’s bad.
So I took some time today and fixed every site and every theme. It gets to be a bit of work when you’ve got a lot of sites out there but changes like this are worth it.
Be sure to check out the source code that every theme is producing to make sure that it’s not doing some bad things that could hurt your site.
