Ugh. I just checked on one of my sites and it lost its first page ranking. In fact, it’s nowhere to be found. I think it happened because I got a litle greedy…
I looked at the site and wow, did I overload the home page with keywords… like, way too much. What was I thinking? I must have seen it rank well and figured that if I stuff it with more keywords, it’ll rank higher (high keyword density / frequency). Nope, that was wrong.
To rank higher, I needed to do more link building. The fact that it ranked well from the get-go was just a nice bonus – that’s it. I got greedy. Yup. I won’t do that again.
I fixed the page. Hopefully it’ll come back to where it was and hopefully I’m not blacklisted for a long time. Well, I get a little down about things like this but I know that I just learned a valuable lesson and won’t do that again, so it’s definitely worth it. I’ve got other sites and I’ll probably just put this one aside for a little while, concentrate on the others that are doing good and come back to this once Google’s had some time to cool off about this.
Ya live and learn. It’s true that ranking really has most to do with inbound links. Your site has to be set up right though. Just mention a keyword 3-4 times and then that’s it. Don’t get greedy like I did.
