So I posted this question in the KWA forums and got a good answer and I read other threads that also had a similar question. I was wondering if the home page of my WordPress site should show the latest article or a static page and if I could make a post the static home page since with posts, you can use tags.
It turns out, you do want the home page to be static. So I’ve fixed a few sites already and will get to the rest this week. This will help Google’s AdSense bot know for sure what’s on your site and you’ll be delivering more targetted clickthroughs. Ok, that makes sense. I’m leaving this site as it is since it truly is more of a blog and not a keyword website.
I did try using some Wordpress plugins that would make posts act like static pages but wasn’t really satisfied with how it did things. So I turned the post I wanted into the static home page, removed the post and then set up the redirect from the post’s old URL to the home page of the site. I lose some tags but it’s worth it.
So I’m hoping that with the link building I’m doing now, these last changes to my sites will help them rank higher. My next step is link exchanging and writing some articles for UAW.
The one site I thought was banned is now showing up on Google again, so that’s very cool. It’s on page 3, but I can bring it back over time.
Oh, and I’m also working on creating an article repository site. I think, over time, that’ll bring in a couple of bucks a month and will only require a little bit of time per week.
