Unique Content is Great for SEO and Rankings

I saw this article today:

Are 5 Sites Better than One? (searchenginewatch.com)

She’s right that the duplicate content thing doesn’t work. I was talking about this with a friend at lunch today. He has a site that he wants to rank higher with and quit using Google AdWords so that he saves money (the way I see it, PPC is short term only if you’re impatient).

If you can write or get someone to write content, then you can do well. Use the to find the best keywords and then supporting keywords to include in the as well. Link to your site using the site name or main keyword (site name 50% of the time, main keyword 25% of the time and other related keywords 25% of the time). Post at EzineArticles.com or other similar sites and watch your site rank better or use the Unique Article Wizard.

When you write content, do not write fluff. Take the time, write good stuff, do research and really put some time into your . Answer a question that you know people have. If you do that, you’ll get rewarded.

And then make it a goal to add some new content to your site(s) each month. Be it 1 page or 5 or 10, do something. If you have a blog or use WordPress, then it’s easy. Look at what I do sometimes… I subscribe to a few e-newsletters and when I find a good article, I blog about it and give my thoughts. Piece of cake. When you do that and link to the article source, you’re giving credit where credit is due and Google (and other search engines) like when sites link to other sites and are not dead ends.

You need your site to become an authority on your topic and then you need other sites to point to you to affirm you as the authority that you are – that’s in a nutshell. Oops, I just gave away the trade secret – doh!

Yeah, you need to do some things to make sure your site is set up well for , but if you’re using WordPress, then you’re 80% there already – I think Matt Cutts said something like that recently. So it comes down to writing good, original / and lots of it (depending on the competition of the keywords you’re targetting).
