WordPress Comment Spam

by admin on January 10, 2011

Ok, so Akismet handles quite a bit of spam and it’s a good system but there’s another kind of comment spam that’s manually being done by the so called “SEO” firms out there. They are trying to leave comments to get a link from your site.

I really have no problem with that except if they are not contributing to the conversation or adding value. That’s spam to me if you just say something like “What you say here is something everyone should know and I am glad to be seeing what is here for you” (with the broken English and all). Yeah, that’s spam.

I run many WordPress sites and manage comments all day. If you have something that contributes to the conversation, then I’ll gladly give you a link because you’re writing content for my site. If you’re not – if you doing it half assed, then you will be marked as spam and you’re just wasting your time. So why do it?

Sorry for the rant there but evidently people from other countries doing this don’t quite get it. They probably just figure that a certain amount of blogs out there will accept it and give them a link and it’s just a numbers game. I get that but that’s not how I would do it.
